Medical Facilities
Williamsburg area residents enjoy convenient access to the
Sentara Regional Medical Center
, located in Williamsburg, along with nearby medical facilities in Norfolk and Richmond, about an hour's drive from Williamsburg. Regional healthcare systems are investing millions of dollars to provide state-of-the-art facilities to the area. In August 2007, Sentara Health System replaced the 45-year-old Williamsburg Community Hospital with Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center, a $96.4 million, five-story medical center with 145 beds.
The $94.5 million, six-story
Sentara Heart Hospital
in Norfolk opened in February 2008 on Norfolk General Hospital’s campus, offering 112 private inpatient beds.
The Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Health System is building a 15-story, 367,000-square-foot hospital to replace its North Hospital in Richmond. The $192 million project is expected to open in 2008.
